Online College and Your Computer
To be successful with online college, you’ll need several things. Of course, just like with any type of classes, you’ll need good study skills and a drive to be successful. Attending online college will also require a few other things that traditional college doesn’t.
Obviously, you’ll need a good computer for online college classes, and you’ll also need a good, or excellent, internet service provider. A poor internet service provider has the power to make your online classes extremely difficult and frustrating. Imagine being near the end of completing an assignment and then losing it because you’re bumped off the internet. As you already know, all internet providers are not equal, and some are much better than others. You’ll need a service that is totally dependable and fast. You don’t want to waste time twiddling your thumbs while you’re having to wait for class information and materials to download.
You’ll also need good operating software, like Windows 7, Windows ME, Windows XP, or Vista. You’ll need good speakers, and headphones would be even more important, since they’ll allow you to concentrate totally on video lectures while “tuning out” noises in your home that might be distractions. A printer and scanner might also be required for online college.
