Tech Savvy Kids

When I was a kid, spending hours on a video game was considered a terrible pass time, which was almost certainly simultaneously rotting my brain and making me morbidly obese, Depending on the game, it could also be turning me into a serial killer by exposing me to endless scenes of mindless violence.

Thanks to my Mum’s diligence (‘turn that thing off and go and play outside’) I grew up to be a healthy, well-adjusted, mentally-fit adult…… who know spends every available minute on my Nintendo DS, to make up for hours of gaming I was denied as a child.

This generation will not suffer the same deprival, as a new wave of educational gamers will have parents begging kids to play some more.

Sure they are no substitute for school or reading a book, but the new touch screen learning tablets for kids, will beat Sonic and Mario at brain-building.

The VTech InnoTab and Leapfrog Leapster Explorer are tipped to be the hottest toys for Christmas 2011, and I am certainly not going to argue with that.

Both are educational games systems, that look and feel like a tablet PC. They feature touch screens and tilt sensors, so owning one of these will probably make your kid more tech savvy than you.

I’m getting one for my kids, just so I can play it when they are asleep in bed.
